After a very successful North Pole trek (Doug and the Baffin team were the only team to make it all the way to the geographic North Pole!), Doug is hanging out in Longyearbyen, and preparing for his return to the U.S.

But he was thinking of PNN while he was up at the Pole. He even doodled our name in the snow for us!

Doug is chillin (quite literally, in below zero temperatures) at the North Pole with his Baffin Team of explorers. They arrived at the pole a few days early, so now they are spending time resting and enjoying their surroundings.

On April 6th, Doug was one of the torch bearers that carried the Olympic torch through London. Here are his thoughts on the experience:

LONDON -- 6 April 2008 -- Today I was proud to be one of the torch-bearers carrying the Olympic flame through London . Me and 79 others were selected on merit to participate in this an opportunity of a lifetime. Some pro-Tibetan protest groups followed the route with predominately peacefully demonstrations along the way.
--- As if ordered specifically for my attendance (being the only 'polar' representative on the team), snow unusual for this time of year in London covered the city and temperatures plummeted to below freezing....I felt quite at home! I would like to thank Coca Cola for the opportunity.

Doug is an Expedition Leader, Senior Field Guide, Cinematographer, Filmmaker, Aerial Rigger, Snowboard Mountaineer, Climber, Motivational Speaker, Environmentalist, and Educator.

He has been on expeditions to some of the world's most remote locations, and has climbed some of the highest peaks. From the North Pole, to the South Pole, and many places in between, Doug is a well traveled man!

But Doug doesn't explore just to satisfy his own curiosity. His is very concerned with both the environment and education. On many of his expeditions he will gather gather data for scientists, and send daily educational updates about his journey via satellite technology. He has even taken children on expeditions for unparalleled educational experiences.

Right now, Doug is on his way to London and will take his turn carrying the Olympic Torch.

After that, he will be meeting up his team and will prepare to head up to the North Pole.
